Comfiest socks ever!

I just purchased the comfiest socks I’ve ever worn (Zen Foot by Balega) the other day and thought dedicating a post to them only made sense. I found out about these socks when I worked at a shoe store and had to try them out during a role play one day. From that day forward I was able to sale these socks like crazy because I knew that nothing beats a pair of comfortable socks. These Zen socks are seamless and temperature regulating. They are also super cute if you ask me. I honestly think these are my first pair of seamless socks and I can assure you it won’t be the last.

Since I purchased these I have not been able to take them off. I purchased mine from TradeHome Shoes and have not been able to find them anywhere else thus far.

Apparently Balega means “warrior” and that is definitely what I feel like in these. I highly recommend them to anyone who wears socks.

Ball park layering

Take me out to the ball game! Growing up I spent most of my spring and summer days at baseball diamonds either watching my brother play or just to hang out with friends. It was the perfect combination of freedom and chill. Now that I’ve gotten older, I usually only get a chance to go once a year or so. But it’s always a good time to me.

So today, I’m focusing on layering for the ball park. This is the perfect outfit, especially if you plan on staying out there a good while as we all know how quickly the weather changes (especially here in Fort Wayne, IN). This look is very casual and appropriate for the park, but also cute and stylish. I feel like red is the perfect color for a day at the park for some reason. But really all you need to create this look is a 3/4 sleeve tee, some denim shorts (mine are pants cutoffs), some casual slip on shoes (here I chose Keds), and top it off with a plaid button down to tie around the waist. This not only gives off a chic look, but will come in handy if it gets a little chilly and then a baseball cap to keep the sun out of your eyes.

This is such a fun, sporty look you’ll want to wear it running errands or if you’re going out for lunch and of course to the ball park!

White tee and cami

One of my all time favorite basics is a plain white tee. Like this honestly used to be the ONlY thing I wore back in grade school and when the song “white tee” by Dem Franchize Boyz came out I was so excited. I used to play that song on repeat everyday. My mom tried her best to expose me to different varieties of shirts, but I wasn’t having it.

Fast forward to a decade later and I probably only own 3 white tees, but they are still one of my go – to basics especially when it comes to layering. And so today I am layering this fun and flirty lacey red cami over it. I purchased the cami a year and a half ago for a friend’s lingerie party from Victoria’s Secret. It came in a set with a pair of matching shorts. The outfit was really cute, but I knew that wouldn’t be something I’d actually wear to bed so I decided to implement it into my daytime wardrobe.

The easiest and most frequent is throwing it over a white tee. Doing so really makes the red pop and is a great casual look. This would also look super cute with a cami. dress which I do not own.

The picture above was me wearing the same cami but with a long sleeve v-neck which was also super cute and a little more stylish 🙂

Concert outfit

Another day another concert? Well I definitely don’t attend many concerts, but when I heard that Young Joc, Twista, Do or Die, Lil Flip and Paul Wall we’re coming to town I couldn’t sit it out. And thankfully I didn’t, because with me being such a huge fan of R&B and Hip Hop from the early 2000’s it was definitely my idea of a good time!

I love any excuse to layer and especially with my favorite fishnet tights that have a gold sparkle to them. Wearing them under the sequin shorts helped with the scratching the shorts do to my legs when I wear them by themselves. Fishnets are a fun, spicy look to wear anywhere but definitely to a concert. I also opted for a black “Purple Rain” Prince t-shirt from Spencer’s and since it was a cool rainy evening, threw on a purple denim jacket that I purchased from TopShop last summer to finish the outfit.

If I were to do this all again, I would stick with the shorts and fishnets but probably add a different jacket instead of the purple one because it’s not the most comfortable given that it’s an oversized denim one. I love the color and overall look of it but when wearing it, I’m just not feeling it.

Anyway, if you’re planning for a concert outfit anytime soon and don’t know where to start, give sequin shorts and fishnets a chance, you won’t regret it!

Layering a Summer Dress

Yesterday was 85° and the last thing I would have ever thought about doing was adding more clothes to my outfit. However, where would the fun in that be?

The cool thing about layering a summer dress is that you don’t have to add warmth to add “spice”. First and foremost, the dress I’m wearing is super comfy and easy to dress up or down and suitable for any season depending on how you layer it. It’s 100% Lyocell which makes it a perfect choice for a muggy afternoon because of its breathable nature (bonus- it’s natural). It is by far my most worn outfit in my wardrobe.

This time around I chose to layer it over a sleeveless open knit crop detailed with lace that I purchased from Charlotte Russe. It added a cute look to my otherwise bare neck and shoulders. The crop top is super comfy and laid flat under my dress without adding any bulk. It’s made of cotton so it was also a perfect choice for the scorching temps. The two paired together made for a comfortable, fun outfit and they will definitely be reuniting together soon.

The great thing about layering a summer dress is you can style it how you want and dress it up or down, all by keeping cool.

Welcome

Thanks for joining my Fashion in Layers blog. This blog will be centered around all things “layering”. As a fashion major myself (Indiana State junior). Layering is one of my personal styling favorites. Adding pieces under or over your outfit can be so fun and versatile and even functional in many ways.

I first began making an effort to layer when I was in high school and played lacrosse outdoors in the cold. As a person who is always cold I knew that I wouldn’t last long unless I learned how to stay warm and that’s when I found long johns and fleece leggings. They became a game changer for me and my wardrobe both on and off the fields. It was the best thing I could have ever implemented into my wardrobe.

Fast forward to years later and I still make an effort to layer not only for the comfort and warmth it can provide but for the creativity it can add to an everyday look. There are so many different ways you can layer no matter the season or occasion. On here I will be posting layering OOTD, various layering tips and encouraging other people to send me pics of them layering to share on here as well.

With weekly postings I hope to inspire and connect with other fashion lovers near and far. I am looking forward to seeing what I will learn and how I will be inspired!

Please stop back bye soon and leave any layering tips or advice you have 🙂
